二十世紀的爵士樂壇裡面，有三位終生成就可堪相提並論的女伶，
分別是：比莉．哈樂黛（Billie Holiday）、莎拉．沃恩（Sarah
Vaughan）、以及艾拉．費茲傑羅（Ella Fitzgerald）。三人的歌唱
技巧爐火純青，自不待言；重要的是，這三人各自有其特色——
煙花女子出身的哈樂黛可以說是「一代苦情歌后」，她的情歌感
人肺腑，聞者莫不淚下；至於沃恩的歌聲則以感性取勝，飽滿的
歌聲中帶有些許的磁性；費茲傑羅的歌聲雖然不如前面兩位那樣
有特別的個人風格，但是她在詮釋快歌、輕鬆曲調的時候，卻洋
溢著一種迷人的渲染力量，往往可以讓聽眾感受到快樂的氛圍。
艾拉的歌聲如此喜樂明快，與整天笑嘻嘻的書包嘴老爹路易．阿
姆斯壯（Louis Armstrong）一起搭檔演出，自然是一拍即合，沒
有人比他們兩個更「速配」了。
正因如此，這兩位爵士樂歌唱大師才能夠在一九五零年代發行好
幾張合作的作品，雋永對話、餘音繚繞，至今仍讓歌迷懷念不已
。一九五六年，艾拉加入「爵士走進愛樂廳」（JATP）的巡迴演
出，而JATP的幕後推手諾曼．葛蘭（Norman Granz）就是「神韻
唱片」（Verve）的老闆——葛蘭大力促成艾拉與路易兩人的合作
，因此才有「艾拉與路易」（Ella & Louis，一九五六年）、「艾
拉與路易第二集」（Ella & Louis Again，一九五七年）、「乞丐
與蕩婦」（Porgy and Bess，一九五七年）等專輯。如果樂迷們喜
歡swing風味十足的「傳統爵士樂」，也很好奇艾拉與路易兩人的
合作會激盪出什麼火花；特別是，想知道他倆以原汁原味的爵士
樂演出的蓋希文歌劇「乞丐與蕩婦」，聽來到底是怎麼一回事，
與Miles Davis的版本又有何不同；那麼就得收藏這一套「神韻唱
片」發行的完整合輯「合作全集3CD」（The Complete Ella
Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong on Verve）。這張3CD合輯完整收錄
上面提到的三張專輯——特別值得注意的是，雖然這套合輯裡面
並未包含任何以往未曾發行的作品，但是在第一、二張CD裡面可
以聽到Oscar Peterson、Ray Brown（艾拉的前夫）、Herb Ellis等爵
士大師為他們伴奏，第三張CD則是Russ Garcia率領其管絃樂團，
配合著艾拉與路易的聲音一起演出「乞丐與蕩婦」。不管是艾拉
或者老爹的歌迷，這張首度放在一起發行的合輯，是絕對不容錯
