The 1998 exhibition, Monet in the 20th century, showed once again that Monet is the world's most popular painter. The film combines a chronological biography of the artist with some of the many aspects of his popularity. There is the range of goods at the Boston museum shop, all bearing Monet's images, the hair salon in Burton-on-Trent, decorated like a Monet painting, an interview with a collector of Monet's paintings, a view of the farm in Northamptonshire where Monet's water gardens are being recreated, as a place for local artists to paint, and an interview with Leo Stevenson, who makes a living producing copies of Monet's paintings.
