Twyla Tharp
Twyla Tharp出生於1941年7月1日。於1963年畢業後她先後參予過多項編舞的表演活動。1956年她自組公司，成為一間專業的編舞及教舞公司。1980年她編舞"When We Are Very Young"，其後還有"The Catherine Wheel"和"Singin' in the Rain"。2002年她編的芭蕾舞音樂劇"Movin' Out"造成轟動，使她連拿多個編舞獎項。另外，她亦為電影"Hair"、"Amadeus"、"Ragtime"編舞。她以每日更新的創意而聞名於編舞界。

Catherine Wheel, the

When Twyla Tharp's The Catherine Wheel premiered on Broadway, it was described by Arlene Croce--dance critic for The New Yorker magazine--as "A major event in our theater," with "dancing of astonishing beauty and power." It was then completely refashioned by Tharp especially for television, with computer-generated figures, shadow-play, and reverse action - creating a wholly separate video version that has also met with overwhelming praise. The work is set to an original score written and performed by David Byrne of Talking Heads, and grew out of Tharp's fascination with Saint Catherine, the 4th-century martyr who was condemned to die on a spiked wheel.
