史坦利．克拉克是爵士樂史上最優異的融合（Fusion）搖滾爵士樂先驅與電貝斯手之一。
很多人認為女人最會花錢，化妝品、衣服、包包、鞋子沒完沒了。女人的玩具琳瑯滿目，所以給了大家這種感覺。男人的玩具包括了攝影、音響、手錶或汽車，男人喜歡玩的東西也許不多，但樣樣昂貴！其中還有一項沒列出來的最貴，你猜猜看那是什麼？！ 「女人」嗎？猜錯了！那並非最昂貴的男人玩具，貝斯手Stanley Clarke認為還有別的東西更貴。他說：「當二個國家之間出現了爭執，二邊的人們就會跑回家找自己的玩具，然後用這些玩具去嚇嚇對手。」「玩具」是什麼？答案就是「武器」。
因此這張專輯《The Toys of Men》的內容嚴肅，是張值得聽眾細細咀嚼的作品。開頭長達十一分多鐘的標題組曲，小提琴手Mads Tolling開門見山在第一樂章《Draconian》裡的猛爆拉奏，為戰爭的感覺揭開序幕。第二樂章《Fear》顧名思義，想強調咱們升斗百姓的恐懼與無奈。第三樂章《Chaos》則由鼓手Ronald Bruner Jr.操刀，也許可以想像一下空襲過後的斷垣殘壁。第五及第六樂章則在賁張情緒下硬生拉回，Esperanza Spalding的歌聲和主角Clarke富詩意的貝斯獨奏給了人一線希望，有種宗教救贖的感覺。
