集舞蹈家、作曲家、歌唱家、導演、制片于一身的Meredith Monk 梅芮迪斯.蒙克，來自一個音樂世家。她發明了「人聲延展技巧」(extended vocal techniques)，創造了表演藝術「跨界演出」(interdisciplinary performance)的典範。
1964年，蒙克自紐約藝術家搖籃的莎拉-羅倫斯學院(Sarah Lawrence College)畢業後，蒙克在表演藝術界獨領風騷三十餘年，作品逾百。華盛頓郵報曾盛贊："數百年之後，當我們為發生在二十世紀後三分之一的表演藝術作總結時，有個名字將傲然顯現，那就是梅芮迪斯.蒙克。無論就原創性、廣度或深度而言，能與蒙克匹敵者皆寥寥無幾。"蒙克獲獎無數，包括地位崇高的麥克阿瑟基金會於1995年頒封她為藝術天才，還有三次奧比獎(Obie Award)、兩次古根漢美術館(Guggenheim useum))最高藝術榮譽獎、兩次布藍迪斯(Brandies)驚人創作獎、一次貝絲(Bessie) 終身成就獎等。獲頒的榮譽藝術博士學位則有來自舊金山藝術學院(San Francisco Art Institute) 與朱莉亞音樂學院(Julliard School)等。
