作曲家莫洛斯的舞台劇「金蘋果」是一齣當今美國音樂劇歷史上最不為人知的一部戲。然而事實上，這是因為唱片公司多年的疏忽造成的。想當年這齣劇在一九五四年外百老匯的鳳凰劇院上演時，還曾經造成極大的轟動，當時這齣劇曾經深深的打動美國的的聽眾，也創下了第一齣以外百老匯製作進軍百老匯的舞台劇作品。
這部舞台劇改編古希臘詩人荷馬的史詩「奧迪賽」和「伊里亞德」中的「特洛伊戰爭」，將故事搬到二十世紀的美國西北部。這齣劇在百老匯上一度紅極一時，可是卻在不久後因為時尚（當時的百老匯不喜歡沒有對白的舞台劇）而淪為被人遺忘的地步。這齣劇當時起用了許多尚未成名的未來巨星，像是KAYE BALLARD、STEPHEN DOUGLOUS等人，後來都在百老匯劇院中不可一世。
