This visionary opera tells the story of how Mahatma Gandhi developed the philosophy of satyagraha, nonviolent active resistance, as a political revolutionary tool to fight oppression, connecting his lifework to three historical figures who advanced his philosophy: the celebrated Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, the great Indian poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore and the American civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. Philip Glass 作曲的歌劇, 敘述甘地受托爾斯泰、印度詩人/哲學家 Rabindranath Tagore 及 馬丁‧路德‧金的哲學思想影響而開啟的一種非暴力反抗的思想
