摘自 博客來音樂館 網站 : 對於Count Basie只有一句話可以形容，那就是「美國的音樂巨人」。Basie可以說是爵士樂史上最重要的搖擺樂大王、樂團領導者，他在30年代開啟了一種獨特的概念來運作樂團中的節奏組，在樂團中他要求節奏組的樂器在每一個拍子上加重強調，製造出搖擺所需的韻律感，鼓手則利用鈸聲做出連續節拍中的停頓效果，這樣的演奏方式深獲廣大樂迷的喜愛，也奠定了Count Basie在當時與Duke Ellington、Fletcher Henderson頂足為三的地位。
Count Basie可以說是堪薩斯爵士樂派的代表人物，他個人除了在編曲上的貢獻之外，精鍊的鋼琴技巧與才華洋溢的作曲能力，更是樂迷津津樂道的特點，自小向母親學習吉他，之後敗Fats Waller、James P.Johnson為師，因此Basie的鋼琴演奏有著深厚的打擊派（stride）技巧。50年代由於受到經濟衰退的影響，Basie的大樂隊也因為人員編制過大，經費入不敷出而面臨了瓦解的命運，不過Basie並未因此停步，仍然維持著5到9件樂器的樂隊持續發表錄音專輯，直到他於1984年去世為止。
