摘自 佳佳唱片 網站 : 奧斯卡金像獎及台灣金馬獎最佳電影配樂(臥虎藏龍)─中國作曲家譚盾，耗費六年時間、嘔心瀝血的長篇佛陀受難曲：《敦煌‧慈悲頌》，靈感來自於譚盾多次參觀敦煌石窟，在這些無數的壁畫中，描繪了四千多種樂器、三千多名音樂家，以及五百多個樂隊。譚盾看過後非常感動，自言這些壁畫栩栩如生，彷彿能從畫中聽見樂聲。
這部大型史詩合唱作品2018年完成，結合了六名打擊樂手、多位獨唱家、中國傳統樂器、一名跳舞的琵琶演奏家(敦煌反彈琵琶)、大型合唱團及大編制交響樂團，將中文及梵文文本的古老佛教教義，引人入勝的管弦樂譜曲及東方聲樂技巧結合，是第一部以佛教而非基督教敘事為題材的《受難曲》。
全曲分為六幕：《菩提樹下》、《九色鹿》、《千手千眼》、《禪園》、《心經》及《涅槃》。中國男中音沈洋演唱佛陀、女高音郭森演唱千手千眼觀音妙善公主、男高音王傳越演唱六祖惠能、女歌手譚維維，以及蒙古神祕低沉的呼麥歌手巴圖巴根。這次演出是疫情之前在2019年6月20日，於上海東方藝術中心音樂廳，由譚盾親自指揮里昂國立管弦樂團暨呂貝克國際合唱學院合唱團的現場演出錄音，是一部彷彿銜接遠古與近代的橋梁，十足野心之作。
