2019年9月6日高齡90歲的指揮家海汀克舉辦最後一場告別樂壇的音樂會，正式從他經營了65年的指揮家生涯退休。海汀克對古典樂壇貢獻深遠，獲頒大英帝國勳章以及成為英國榮裕勳位成員，並獲頒馬勒協會的金牌獎。合作過的樂團無數包括：柏林愛樂、皇家大會堂管弦樂團、倫敦愛樂、格林德伯恩歌劇院管弦樂團、德勒斯登國家管弦樂團、芝加哥交響樂團等。

Hundreds of recordings, awards, and honors over the course of 60 years show the import of the career of one of the 20th and 21st century's most prolific conductors. Dutch television host Hans Haffmans tells the story of Bernard Haitink's life and career in a moving documentary. Excerpts from rehearsals for his coming concert at the Berliner Philharmonie in a Mahler program, interviews, masterclasses, and archival footage make up the filmmaker's very astute portrait. From his retirement home in the south of France, Haitink, now in his nineties, reflects on his incredible career while still looking toward the future. When asked why he continues to conduct, he responds, ever the perfectionist, "Maybe I could do better the next time... maybe.".
