20世紀最重要的爵士女伶比莉哈樂黛（安德拉戴飾演），她創造出無數經典名曲，不過其中一首〈奇異的果實〉（Strange Fruit），卻因為歌詞暗喻白人社會對黑人的殘酷迫害，因此引發聯邦政府不滿。聯邦政府想要阻止她公開演唱這首歌曲，於是看準她藥物成癮的弱點，找來黑人探員吉米弗萊徹（崔凡特羅德飾演）接近她，並讓吉米設下桃色陷阱，打算誣陷比莉就此鋃鐺入獄…。不斷受到種族迫害的哈樂黛，能否再度透過這首歌，高聲唱出人權的希望呢？

"Follows the legendary Holiday, one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, who spent much of her career being adored by fans across the globe. However, beginning in the 1940's in New York City, the federal government targeted Holiday in a growing effort to escalate and racialize the war on drugs, ultimately aiming to stop her from singing her controversial and heart-wrenching ballad, "Strange Fruit"."--
