摘自 博客來網路書店 網站 : 安妮塔．歐黛 Anita O’ Day這位女歌手在爵士歌壇上可說是具有「承先啟後」地位的重要先驅，1919年出生的她早期遊走於各搖擺大樂團之間，在1941到1943年間她成為Gene Krupa Orchestra中不可或缺的要角。此時她也與Roy Eldridge合作了膾炙人口的＂Let Me Off Uptown＂，但她在台上經常不自覺地延展比三零年代搖擺樂風更為露骨與浪漫的唱腔，也因此被認為是現代爵士樂的先鋒之一，雖然她的唱法表演基本上還是根源於June Christy與Chris Connor的方式。從很多方面來看，Anita O’ Day並不算是有極佳的天賦，她的嗓音時常限於單窄的音域並經常苦於發音問題，她絕對沒有Ella Fitzgerald與Sarah Vaughan天賦異稟的歌喉，但是她卻是少數能夠像Billie Holiday一樣把曲調的情緒與自己的情感融而為一的絕佳「詮釋歌者」。雖然她在六零年代達到她演唱生涯的最高峰，但她最為人所稱道的還是她於1958年在新港爵士樂節（Newport Jazz Festival）當中的經典演唱。
