自從1950年代初期到1960中期，是爵士薩克斯風大師史坦．蓋茲加盟
Verve 唱片公司的一段重要的事業高峰期。這段期間他不僅以美國東
岸費城居民的身分在西岸成功地在『酷派爵士』（Cool Jazz）領域闖
出一片江山，更在六０年代初期（1962-1964）與巴西的音樂人成功
地將森巴樂與『Cool Jazz』結合成日後風行全球的Bossa Nova，他對
爵士樂壇的貢獻，早已超出技巧的範疇，昇騰到爵士風格與精神的層
次。
在這套雙CD的『精華選粹』（Hightlights）中所收錄的27首樂曲，就
是蓋茲在1952-1971年間在Verve旗下所灌錄最具代表意義的作品。共
同完成這些歷史名曲的爵士名人還包括迪吉．葛拉斯彼ˋ艾拉．費茲
潔拉ˋ喬安．吉巴托夫妻檔ˋ奧斯卡．彼得生ˋ傑瑞‧莫勒根ˋ傑．
傑．強生等人。演出的經典則涵蓋“Stella By Starlight”、“It Don't
