薩爾茲堡藝術節向來是藝術界的盛事之一，不論是舉世聞名的大師、
享譽已久的樂團還是初出茅廬的音樂奇葩，莫不以出席此盛事為榮耀
之一。
一九九七年的演出當中最為讓人耳目一新的算是莫札特的談唱劇。這
部由巴勒斯坦劇院導演Francois Abou Salem執導，明可斯基指揮的《
後宮誘逃》就是便是一例；全劇背景設於中東，Mortier為此找尋中東
籍導演，而後Francois Abou Salem為該劇帶來的觀念和風格，更證明
Mortier識人之明，賦與該劇全新生命！
以巴勒斯坦人的觀點切入莫札特筆下的愛情歌劇，Salem不時在劇中
展現阿拉伯和回教民族特有的文化觀念，讓原本以為愛奔逃，不惜誘
拐他人的愛情故事展現出中東權力階級的衝突與爭扎。
Francois Abou Salem劇中的後宮是個充滿奢華氣氖，卻無自由的華麗
牢籠；重新編輯的台詞、舞台上演奏的中東籍樂師與舞者們皆是
Salem對該劇舊版所做的挑戰。劇中場景與服裝不斷在中東與西方、
現代與古典間交錯，將人生活化的一面在舞台上展現。劇中多個場
景出現的沁涼水池，更是緩和沙漠暑氣和舞台氣氖不可或缺的要景
之一。

The celebrated three-act opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart comes to life in this dynamic performance at the world-famous Salzburg Festival. Director Francois Abou Salem brings a modern Middle Eastern sensibility to this journey into Arabian and Muslim culture, filtering the comic tale of abduction for today's audiences. Soprano Christine Schafer portrays Constanze, a woman whose heart is torn between her fiance, Belmonte (Paul Groves), and her new master, Pasha Selim (Akram Tillawi). A sensual and resoundingly modern experience, this new interpretation casts new light on a classic musical work and infuses it with aching human emotion. 「後宮誘逃」以18世紀土耳其為背景, 敘述一名年輕人將被賣到土耳其的未婚妻和她的女侍及女侍的情人一併救回的故事.
