館藏資訊
In this program, conductor/composer Michael Gielen, pianist and scholar Charles Rosen, and Carl E. Schorske, historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, analyze the complexities of Schoenberg’s atonal Opus 16. This work embodies Schoenberg’s early efforts to artistically plunge into the self, and its dissonance, subtle shadings of timbre, and pervading sense of agony are discussed. Biographical background, archival film clips, photographs, and period art provide insights into Schoenberg’s quest for direct psychological expression. A stellar performance by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra exemplifies why Schoenberg is a 20th-century luminary.
