「孤星血淚」描述出身貧寒的孤兒皮普，和姐姐及做鐵匠的姐夫同住，一次機緣下，皮普認識哈維森小姐，哈維森小姐終日穿著她的新娘禮服，因為多年前她在婚禮上被愛人拋棄，她的怨恨轉而成為對所有男性的復仇，皮普對哈維森小姐的養女艾絲黛拉十分著迷，但艾絲黛拉對貧窮的他不屑一顧，這讓皮普立志要成為上流社會的有錢人。
長大後的皮普有天接到律師的消息，告知皮普有個秘密的贊助人，願意出資讓他受教育，皮普心裡又燃起了一絲希望，他可以藉這個機會提升自己的地位，說不定這一次艾絲黛拉願意接受他了，但是捉弄人的命運還未罷休…
