肥子華勒(Fats Waller,1904-1943）是多才多藝且琴藝非凡的音樂家，他能唱能彈，暨是作曲、編曲家也是專業表演者；笑口常開、渾身充滿喜感，時常帶著樂團全世界巡迴演出，散佈爵士樂也散佈歡樂。即使主要身分是職業表演者，華勒在短短三十九年的生命中，仍對爵士樂產生重大的影響。他是第一位使用電風琴（Organ）彈奏爵士樂的演奏家，也是將搖擺樂帶入成熟階段的關鍵人物之一，演奏跨步（Stride）風格時，節奏處理的複雜度和音樂整體的跳躍感幾乎無人能及。製作人Orrin Keepnews有感於華勒的重要性，將他演奏生涯中的重要作品依主題搜羅，有系統地帶領樂迷體驗這位音樂家精采的演奏。
