潔西‧諾曼 Jessye Norman是目前歌劇界中最具代表性人物，她是一位真正雄偉的女高音，她所演唱的所有音樂都因她而有著強大的說服力和風格。單就歌劇來說，潔西喜歡嘗試各種不同的角色，特別是一些富有戲劇性或強烈人物性格的角色，例如理察史特勞斯的《莎樂美》、華格納《女武神》、威爾第的《阿伊達》等，都有個人獨到的詮釋，而她在【特洛伊人】中所飾演的卡桑德拉公主，深刻的舞台印象與動人的聲音表情更是讓人折服。潔西‧諾曼的聲音有如上天的恩賜，她的音域寬廣又富有彈性，不管是女高音或是女中音的角色都能揮灑自如，加上她對各類音樂總是勇於嘗試，因此她的錄音作品十分多元，從歌劇、爵士、黑人靈歌到流行跨界音樂都有，好比聲樂界的歌曲寶庫。潔西傑出的音樂才華不但讓她獲得包括哈佛大學和劍橋大學在內28所學院與大學的榮譽博士學位，在樂壇上也受到無數的肯定，她曾獲得英國留聲機大獎和美國葛萊美獎等許多獎項，並且兩度在美國總統的就職大典上獻唱，連英國女皇六十大壽的慶祝音樂會上都指定要她表演。1989年法國總理密特朗特別頒發給她藝術與人文榮譽勳章；2006年，潔西獲得第48屆葛萊美音樂獎的終身成就獎，在她諸多的殊榮之上更增添了另一道光環。
