「惟有在冰箱的東西空了才會出來指揮」，這是對小克萊伯最貼切的一句話。
沒有一個指揮可以如此被樂迷愛戴，而曲目卻屈指可數。小克萊伯就是這樣，本身就是一項傳奇。小克萊伯棒下的音樂，自信、流暢，那極自然的彈性，彷彿音樂是自動流洩而出，絲毫沒有所謂拍子，一切是這樣的自在，台下的觀眾也籠罩在這股不可思議的氛圍，難以自拔。
這份珍貴的錄影畫面，由南德廣播公司提供，錄自1970年。我們看到有攝影機恐懼症的小克萊伯，與音樂連結在一起，就渾身散發自信與光芒，當然音樂也就讓聽眾如觸電般著迷。在這部音樂紀實中，我們看到幾乎是小克萊伯最擅長的兩首德奧序曲，韋伯的魔彈射手，與小約翰史特勞斯的蝙蝠。這兩首都是小克萊伯幾乎閉著眼睛都能演出的招牌，那音樂自然的流動，如同自體發出光芒般耀目，這只有小克萊伯做得到。

Carlos Kleiber is far too sensitive and self-critical to maintain an unbroken relationship with the public. He hates routine, and his appearance are often months apart. This is one of the reasons why he agreement to do this film recording was considered quite a cop. Kleiber's distinctive qualities are his precision, politeness, charm, imagination and astonishing success at achieving the effects he desires. These rehearsals and performances are uniquely memorable.
