電影描述指揮家安德烈在他任職俄國歌劇院首席指揮時，因為拒絕遣散猶太人的樂手，自己卻被迫離開這個樂壇。光陰匆匆，當他重新回到樂團時，早已是個白髮蒼蒼的老翁，更不堪的是，他不是以在燈光下舞臺上、地位崇高的指揮家身分回來，而是地位卑微的清潔工… 。只是，對音樂的熱情讓這位隱姓埋名的指揮家默默地在劇院工作，靜靜地聽著日復一日幕前音樂的流瀉，直到有天因緣際會，他得知樂團可以到巴黎的音樂廳演出，為了一圓心中的音樂美夢，安德烈將同樣淪為清潔工的樂團老友以及流浪在各行各業的老團員聚集起來，一起假扮成管弦樂團團員，冒充到巴黎演出，在他們人生遲暮之年，再度嚐到掌聲與喝采的謝幕…

Thirty years ago, Andrei Simoniovich Filipov, conductor of the Bolshoi orchestra, was fired for hiring Jewish musicians. Now a cleaning man at the Bolshoi, he hears the Chatelet Theater in Paris has invited the Bolshoi orchestra to play there. He gathers together his former musicians and a young solo violin virtuoso to perform in Paris in the place of the current Bolshoi orchestra. If they all overcome the hardships ahead this very special concert will be a triumph.
