「青少年的魔號」是德國最重要的歌曲集之一，反映出日耳曼民族最重要的精神與思想。作曲家馬勒從少年時就非常喜愛這一套詩作，並陸續將其譜寫成歌。當代研究早期馬勒作品時，這套歌曲集絕對是不可或缺的典範。
男中音湯瑪斯‧漢普森一直致力於德文藝術歌曲的研究，也是最熱衷於馬勒藝術歌曲的專家，他甚至從馬勒家族處取得馬勒在譜寫「青少年的魔號」一系列作品時所使用的原版詩作及相關文獻資料。這場漢普森在巴黎夏特律劇院舉辦的音樂會是一份極具權威色彩的音樂會，漢普森的演唱濃郁且富幻想色彩，與伴奏沃夫朗．萊格的搭配默契十足，雖為靜態獨唱會，卻是直入人心。
