英國小提琴家丹尼爾‧霍普出生於南非,成長於倫敦,但是這些遷移背後的原因,都不是出自於自願。為了脫離納粹德國,霍普的外祖父母從德國逃到南非。而霍普的父母親為了脫離南非的種族隔離制度,再度帶著孩子出逃,前往英國定居。個人家庭的經歷,以及歷史上因為政治因素造成音樂家流亡的例子,讓霍普產生錄製這一張專輯的想法。
希特勒對猶太人的仇視與迫害,造成許多有猶太血統的作曲家被迫遠離家園,像是匈牙利的羅札、德國的瓦克斯曼、奧地利的艾斯勒與康果爾德等人,都相對安定的美國成為這些作曲家爭相前往的國家;而需要大量音樂的好萊塢更成為這些作曲家謀生的好地方,而他們也的確為好萊塢留下不少至今依然深受喜愛的作品,並且影響到現代許多好萊塢電影作曲家。
這一張專輯是以由海飛茲首演的康果爾德著名小提琴協奏曲為中心,輔之以這些流亡音樂家的著名作品,以及深受他們影響的當代經典電影配樂,如:《辛德勒名單》、《美國心玫瑰情》、《新天堂樂園》,由英國著名編曲家與作曲家貝特曼全部重新編曲。史汀也在這張專輯客席演出,與霍普重新詮釋改編自艾斯勒作品,1987年由他唱紅的歌曲《秘密的婚禮》。德國著名歌手馬克斯‧拉貝則演唱了庫特‧懷爾著名的《輕聲細語》。
