位處柏林，雄偉無比的奧伯斯普瑞（Oberspree）電纜廠，自十九世紀末起就一直是強盛工業力量的象徵，但在2007年5月1日這一天，這棟建築物搖身一變，舉辦了非凡的音樂盛會，這場盛會的不尋常之處正在於，它是柏林愛樂建團125年的紀念音樂會。這棟建築物從外面看起來不僅壯觀，建築物的音響效果更是出乎意外地好，在這裡舉行一年一度的歐洲音樂會是再也理想不過的了。當然，優秀無比的管弦樂團勢必搭配重量級的曲子，在現任指揮拉圖的帶領下，柏林愛樂演出華格納與布拉姆斯的作品，這場音樂會不僅在波茲坦廣場的新力中心（柏林愛樂廳旁）架起了大螢幕做同步轉播，它也藉由電視與廣播等媒介，放送至全世界。
華格納的「帕西法爾」前奏曲與柏林愛樂的歷史，有著不可分割的關係，在1882年柏林愛樂創團時，這首曲子正是演出的重點曲目之一；該團演奏布拉姆斯精彩的複協奏曲，則是獻給偉大的大提琴家、指揮家與教師羅斯托波維契（Mstislav Rostropovich），做為對他的回憶，而兩位提琴家──大提琴莫克（Trulus Mork）與小提琴家巴蒂雅．許薇莉（Lisa Batiashvili）的演奏則相當緊密而清晰：莫克精妙的音色與巴蒂雅．許薇莉的精確與濃郁相輔相成。而這場激勵人心的音樂會，無疑向柏林愛樂每一位年輕與年長的、退休與現役的團員致敬。

Every year the Berliner Philharmoniker plays a concert on May 1st in a European city to commemorate the orchestra's founding in 1882. This concert does not occur in the Philharmonie but in a huge 19th-century factory building, the Kabelwerk Oberspree, whose interior is a large oblong space of steel girders and brick walls. The orchestra is on a raised platform and the large audience, which looks to number in the thousands, is seated in chairs on the flat factory floor. The acoustics, if one can judge by the recorded sound, are spectacular. In this concert the orchestra is conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.
