這份錄影中的普羅高菲夫第一號小提琴協奏曲是帕爾曼在一九八○年於BBC管弦樂團創團五十周年音樂會上的演出，攝製於當年的十月二十二號。
八○年代是帕爾曼最富聲望、技巧臻至巔峰的時代，這首協奏曲他大概就在同個期間，也和同一個組合，為EMI灌錄了普羅高菲夫的兩首協奏曲，至今依然被公認為經典。演出完成之後隔年，他又返回倫敦，在逍遙音樂節上，演奏了艾爾加的小提琴協奏曲。
帕爾曼雖然是演奏技巧和性格都非常適合演奏浪漫派曲目的小提琴家，但令人意外的是，他終生沒有灌錄過艾爾加這首協奏曲，因此這份錄影就留下了他對此曲的珍貴見解，而他對艾爾加此曲的詮釋和見解，和大部份提琴家過於輕浮的詮釋完全相反，表現出曲中艾爾加想要深化音樂悲劇色彩的層面，一開始就刻意放慢速度，加強那種悲劇感，這種前所未有的做法，讓這份演奏成為非常值得參考的經典。

"The great Israeli-born violinist Itzhak Perlman has already left a huge number of sound recordings of his interpretations, but it adds an extra dimension to be able to watch him execute, for instance, the brilliant spiccato bowing in Saint-Saens's Introduction et rondo capriccioso. A master of the French style through his teacher Ivan Galamian, Perlman at 25 is seen in the first full flush of his talent.
